How it works

Four steps. The first three take about a minute.

  1. 01

    See what is nearby

Open the map. Every bag shows the store, the price, what kind of food to expect and when to pick it up.

  2. 02

    Reserve a bag

Pay by card in the app. The amount is only held until you collect, so a cancelled order costs nothing.

  3. 03

  4. 04

    Enjoy it

Fresh food that would otherwise have been binned, for a fraction of the price.

Surprise Bag

What is a Surprise Bag?

A Surprise Bag is what a store has left at closing time, packed together and sold for at least half off. You see the category before you buy, such as pastries, groceries or a warm meal, but the exact contents are a surprise. That flexibility is what lets stores sell genuine surplus instead of guessing.

50–90% off
The price is always at least half the original retail value of what is inside.
Fresh and safe
Only food that is still good to eat. Nothing past its use-by date is ever sold.
Honest categories
You know if it is bread, a meal or groceries. The details are the surprise.

Good for everyone involved

  • For you

Dinner, breakfast or groceries for a fraction of the price, from places you already like.

  • For local businesses

Food that is already made gets paid for instead of binned, and new customers walk through the door.

  • For the planet

Every bag avoids about 2.85 kg of CO₂ and the water, land and energy that went into growing the food.

Why it matters

Europe throws away about 58 million tonnes of food a year, roughly 131 kg per person. More than half of that happens after the food has already reached a shop or a home.

70 kg per household, every year

That is how much food the average EU household throws away. Most of it was perfectly edible when it was bought.

One bag, 2.85 kg of CO₂

Rescuing a single Surprise Bag avoids roughly the emissions of a 10 km car trip.

Still fresh, just unsold

A bakery cannot sell yesterday's bread. That does not make it any less good tonight.

Money stays local

Every bag sold is revenue for an independent café, bakery or shop in your neighbourhood.

Small habit, real effect

One bag a week saves you money and keeps around 150 kg of CO₂ out of the air over a year.

For businesses
